HEY BLOCK!!!

We encourage everyone to come dressed up in their best Halloween costume! Have fun with this!  We will be giving away TWO AUTOGRAPHED POSTERS to the two best costumes that we see!  We will be in our usual tailgate spot near the corner of 1st and Kirby by the Gameday Tent.  Look for the Blockheads and their jerseys!

Where?: 1st and Kirby by the Gameday tent

Block I Pep Rally!!!

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

HEY BLOCK!!!

We realize the team is not doing as good as we all hoped for, but we need to support them through thick an thin (no matter how thin). This is the time of the year where roadtrip points really start to matter and add up, so make sure to come get all the points you can possibly get! REMEMBER, this trip is completely FREE for you!!!

The opportunity will be this Thursday, October 29th.  We will be holding a pep rally on the East side of the stadium by the practice fields at 5:30.  This is a tremendous opportunity as football practices are closed to the public! As if that isn’t enough of a reason to come out, we will also be raffling off a poster signed by members of the team! There will of course be FREE pizza, chips, and pop while we watch the scrimmage.  Lastly, we will be playing football ON ZUPPKE FIELD after the pep rally. We have done this in the past, and it is always a lot of fun. So make sure to come out, get some free food, and support our FIGHTING ILLINI!

What?: Pep Rally!

When?: Thursday, October 29, 5:30 pm.

Where?: East side of Memorial Stadium by the practice fields

Why?: FREE food! Chance at an autographed poster! Watch the team practice (normally closed to the public)! Play football in Memorial Stadium afterwards!

WEEKLY ROADTRIP POINTS

Tuesday, October 20th, 2009

HEY BLOCK-

So as you all know our team is not playing up to par right now, and you may be asking yourself “Why should I go to Block-I Roadtrip Point events when our team is playing so poorly?” Well let me remind you that the 2009 ROADTRIP TO MINNESOTA ON NOV. 7th IS COMPLETELY FREE AND ROADTRIPS WITH 100 ILLINI FANS ARE ALWAYS A TON OF FUN!!!!! Not to mention when you come to events you get to see other Fighting Illini Sports compete and win!! So now that we have that out of the way let me tell you where you can get your 2 points this week…
1) Thursday, October 22nd at 6pm the Illinois Soccer team will be hosting THE Ohio State University at the Illinois Track and Soccer Stadium. The team is coming off of a 3-1 road victory against the Iowa and are excited about returning home to take on the Buckeyes. So come out, sit behind the opposing teams goalie, and cheer the Illini Soccer team on to victory.
2) Saturday, October 24th at 12pm is your second opportunity to get a ROADTRIP POINT at the Illini Swimming and Diving “Splash Bash” meet. This is a new sport for Illini Pride this year and we hope all of you will come out and support the team and represent IP! The meet takes place at the ARC and you will need both your student i.d. and your Illini Pride card. We do realize that this is at the same time as the football game and it is this way because we had scheduled it for a roadtrip point long before we knew the time of the football game.  HOWEVER, since the football game is going on at the same time, it WILL be projected on a big screen at the ARC, and there will be a room where you can hear commentary at the same time as you watch Splash Bash.  We think this is the fairest way to work out this event since we had scheduled it far in advance. Sorry for any inconveniences this may cause you.
That is all of the events we have this week. Again the remaining tshirts are in the Illini Pride cubicle located on the second floor of the quad side of the Illinois Union. You can pick them up during the times listed on www.illinipride.com/cube. If you have any questions/comments/concerns please let us know. Thanks! and GO ILLINI!!!!!

Block I Roadtrip Opportunities

The first roadtrip opportunity will be on gameday at approximately 8:45 for Illini Walk. Illini Walk takes place on the drive that goes in between the stadium and the ARC.  If you are there, you will get a roadtrip point!!  The second opportunity will be the next day (Sunday) at the soccer game.  The game is at 1 o’clock and will be at Illinois Track and Soccer Stadium.  The girls take on Big Ten conference rival Wisconsin.  The games are always a lot of fun, and if that isn’t enough to get you out there, a roadtrip point should! FOOTBALL PEP RALLY AND ZOOK SHOW THURSDAY!

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

Hey Block-

This Thursday, October 1st, we will be having our first official Pep Rally! The pep rally will start at 6 o’clock, but instead of having it on the East side of the stadium like we normally do, we will be having it in the 8th floor of the press box on the West side of the stadium. Enter into the stadium through the West doors, and take the elevator up to the 8th floor (we will have blockheads there directing you where to go, so don’t worry about getting lost if you are not familiar with the stadium).  We will be serving food and drinks starting at 6.  Once you are done eating, you will be able to go on a tour of the press box, which is really something to see and I would highly recommend taking advantage of this once in a lifetime opportunity.  At 7, the Zook show starts, so make sure to come ready with some good questions for coach.  The show will last an hour, and you have a really good opportunity of being on the radio so be sure to tell all your family and friends to listen in! Also don’t forget that this is a roadtrip point opportunity, and all the points matter and do add up, so make sure you come to secure your spot on the roadtrip! Lastly, IP barndance tickets are being distributed starting at 6, and they always go quickly,  so make sure to come early!

RECAP:

WHAT?: Zook show and Pep Rally

WHEN?: Thursday, October 1st, 6 pm until 8 pm

Soccer Completes Weekend Sweep!

Friday, September 25th, 2009

Illinois soccer got back to its winning ways on Friday night, rockin’ the socks off of Loyola-Chicago 2-0.  The girls owned a 19-8 shot attempt margin (9 of which were on goal) and keeper Alexendra Kapicka also picked up her 12th career shut-out.  After taking 5 Loyola defenders to school but barely having her shot sail wide of the post, Sophomore Marissa Mykines smashed an unassisted shot into the goal in the 28th minute.  Sophomore Julie (Juice) Ewing had a close attempt as well, but the Rambler’s goal keeper just barely managed to poke it away at the last second.  Loyola was never really able to get any momentum going thanks to the solid team play on defense, but just to be certain, team-leading-goal-scorer Jordan Hilbrands put the game away in the 85th after she buried a beautifully crossed ball by Senior Chichi Nweke in the back of the net for her 6th on the season.

The Illini continued their weekend romp with another win on a rainy Sunday over UM-Milwaukee 3-1.  Freshman Shayla Mutz caught on fire with 2 huge goals (1st and 2nd in her career) to put the girls ahead in the 6th.  UM-W came back though to tie things up right before half, but early in the 2nd half, Junior Christina Sahly ripped a no-look curling shot into the far left post from outside 18 after receiving an awesome though-ball from Juice.  Mutz put the icing on the cake with her second goal of the night in the 85th.
